ESCAPING SILOS
Foundations often categorize their grants by the kinds of nonprofit organizations that receive them (in philanthropy jargon: “silos.”) We used to do that, too. But the real goal of the Foundation’s grantmaking is to serve people. Sure, our grants still go through nonprofit organizations of many kinds. But we now consider and report our grants in terms of people who benefit.
