What we Fund What We Fund: Other Interests Helping the broader nonprofit community operate more effectively. While the Foundation concentrates its funding on children and their families, it recognizes that this is not the principal mission of many nonprofit organizations. Although the Foundation may choose not to directly support those organizations, they may be invited to participate in foundation-initiated training programs, especially those that enhance the effectiveness of their organizations. Grants for community interests. While the Foundation’s primary interest is children and their families, it recognizes that a broad range of programs and projects may benefit the people of Fort Wayne and Allen County. The board may, therefore, award grants that help the community in other ways. So long as grants are used to benefit Allen County citizens, just about any type of activity from qualified organizations may be considered (see eligibility guidelines). However, because many proposals may be competing for a relatively small share of the Foundation’s grantmaking, competition for these grants could be intense. The Foundation may use up to 15 percent of its grantmaking to address other community interests.
