Growing Leadership: Kandace Kelly

Kandace Kelly has worked to uplift our community’s citizens for more than 25 years at Positive Resource Connection. Kandace was drawn to working there because she is passionate about helping people, especially those who are often overlooked.

Kandace participated in the Helene Foellinger Leadership Development Initiative’s Leadership Lab. As an Executive Leader, she and a dozen of her peers in the community gathered once a month for 12 months for all-day sessions, which also included out-of-classroom work and experiential learning opportunities.

“I’m in my 50s, and you just really don’t think there’s much to grow anymore, but I’ve seen myself really growing and evolving as I go through each step of this class.”

– KANDACE KELLY

Kandace’s growth through the Leadership Lab was featured in The Journey, a 33-minute documentary following four participants through their year-long experience in the program. The Journey highlights the Leadership Lab’s innovative approach to helping nonprofit leaders develop adaptive leadership skills.

“Part of what this class is doing every month is coming up with ways to change. You’re able to step outside the box, and look in to see who you are, not just as an employee or supervisor, but also as a wife, a mother, a friend, a daughter. I’ve learned a lot about myself. Some things that are really good, and some things that are not so good. And then you take those not so good things and then you say, okay, how can I change it?”
