Legacy & Beyond: Lutheran Social Services of Indiana

What do you want your legacy to be?

As part of our 2025 Annual Report, we challenged four nonprofit leaders to answer the question in a statement that describes the impact they hope their organizations will have on the community through their leadership.

Lutheran Social Services of Indiana

Lutheran Social Services of Indiana (LSSI) equips families facing challenging obstacles with the skills necessary to make positive choices and build economic and family stability. LSSI services empower individuals and families to move toward social, emotional, and spiritual wholeness

Angie Moellering, President and CEO

Angie has devoted 30 years of her career to LSSI, beginning with leading one program and progressing through various positions, including Development Director, Chief Operating Officer, and ultimately the CEO. During her 15 years as CEO, LSSI has seen substantial growth and has adapted to evolving community needs, demonstrating her steady leadership and commitment to the organization's faith-based mission of helping families achieve stability.

Lutheran Social Services of Indiana’s Legacy

Angie Moellering, President and CEO

Leadership is dynamic, and my leadership philosophy centers on making a difference in the lives of those we serve and those I work alongside. For me, the key to leadership is learning from those around me and adapting our services to more effectively address the community’s evolving needs. This, in turn, results in a greater impact.

My past 30 years at Lutheran Social Services have been focused on growth. I remain curious, asking questions, researching, and involving my colleagues in finding solutions. Building a successful team requires hiring those with expertise that complements and exceeds my own, and then equipping them so they can apply their skills effectively.

In 2026, LSSI celebrates its 125th anniversary. Our growth can be measured in numerous ways—by our revenue, by our number of employees, and by our organizational accomplishments. But, most importantly, this milestone should be measured by our impact on those we serve. Through our efforts, families are creating a more stable trajectory that allows their children, grandchildren, and future generations to move from crisis to thriving!

What makes me most proud is seeing our team and services in action. When I walk through our buildings and see children and adults building new skills and developing a more resilient approach to life’s challenges, I can see that we are making a tangible difference in families’ lives.

At some point during our lives, we all need a helping hand. With a collaborative spirit and our faith-based roots guiding us, we will continue to provide that helping hand and support families in realizing their social, emotional, and spiritual wholeness.
